DUBAI, March 28, 2026: American colt Magnitude won the 30th Dubai World Cup on Saturday night at Meydan Racecourse, delivering a commanding performance in the emirate’s flagship horse racing event and handing the United States its ninth victory in the history of the race. Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, the four-year-old prevailed in the Group 1 contest over 2,000 metres on dirt, defeating a field of nine high-caliber international runners in one of the most prestigious events on the global racing calendar.

Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Jose Ortiz, Magnitude produced a composed and decisive run to capture the title and secure the winner’s share of $6.96 million from the race’s total $12 million purse, sponsored by Emirates. The colt crossed the line in 2 minutes 4.38 seconds, finishing 0.98 lengths clear of his nearest challenger in a performance that underscored both stamina and tactical precision on the Meydan surface.

The victory marked a major international success for Magnitude’s connections and added another notable achievement to the American record in the Dubai World Cup, a race that has long attracted leading horses, trainers and jockeys from around the world. Magnitude’s triumph also reinforced the enduring competitiveness of U.S.-trained contenders in Dubai, where American stables have historically enjoyed strong results in top-level dirt races.

Japanese contender Forever Young secures strong second place

Japan’s Forever Young finished second after mounting a strong challenge but was unable to close the gap on the winner in the final stages. Owned by Susumu Fujita, the runner-up was trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Ryusei Sakai. The placing earned the Japanese challenger $2.4 million and continued Japan’s recent pattern of prominent performances on the international stage, even though the country’s search for a Dubai World Cup victory remains unfinished.

Third place went to Meydaan, representing the United Arab Emirates, in a result that ensured local interest remained firmly present on the podium. Owned by Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the horse was trained by Simon and Ed Crisford and partnered by jockey William Buick. Meydaan earned $1.2 million for the placing, giving the home contingent a notable finish in a race dominated by elite overseas competition and widely followed by racing audiences across the region and beyond.

Global contenders compete for top honors in Dubai

The Dubai World Cup remains one of the richest and most closely watched events in horse racing, serving as the centerpiece of Dubai’s annual racing showcase at Meydan. Its combination of prize money, international prestige and deep fields has made it a focal point for owners and trainers seeking global recognition. Saturday’s edition, the 30th running of the race, maintained that reputation, drawing accomplished runners from major racing jurisdictions and again highlighting Dubai’s position as a leading hub for the sport.

Magnitude’s victory now places his name alongside a distinguished list of Dubai World Cup winners and provides a defining moment in his four-year-old campaign. For Asmussen and Ortiz, it represented another major achievement on an international stage, while for Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC it delivered one of the most valuable and prestigious successes in global racing. In a race known for demanding both class and resilience, Magnitude met the occasion with authority, confirming his credentials against world-class opposition and closing the evening as the standout performer in Dubai’s marquee event. – By Content Syndication Services.
